The plea
See my previous blog post for my requirements. Not looking to get put into a place where all my $$$ is going repairing and bringing up the chassis to a good working point. I've found other blogs on build ups on GSXR bikes. Here's a couple:The find!
On Saturday, I went out to look at what was supposed to be a Suzuki GSX-R 750 rolling chassis. Motor is blown and not included. This is what I was looking for!I borrowed the neighbors truck and made the 40 mile drive across the valley to the guys trailer. I peak over the fence and see 5 or 6 bikes, most of them look complete, and the one he had sent me a picture of.
He answers the door and takes me into the back yard. The bike looks like what I'll need. The seat is in need of repair. The back shock was not attached, the brakes need some attention to the connects. He did have a headlight module. I paid my 350 and was handed the title to the bike. He even helped me load the thing in my neighbor's overly tall 4x4 pickup truck.
Got it home
When I got it home I found a couple of things that made me worried. The title said it was a G60. A quick Google search revealed that G60 means GSX-R 600.Also took the VIN to a decoder and verified that it was a G60 too. But they said the checksum did not match. What!?!
So out to the motorcycle laying against the fence in the side yard and checked its VIN. When I was buying the bike, I verified the first few and last few digits. But lo and behold, the middle digit on the title read "Y" while the bike had a "4". They look similar so hopefully it was just a typo at the motor vehicle division. But what if it was a fake title?! What if it was a stolen bike.
First thing Monday AM I was on hold for 44 minutes with the motor vehicle division to find out that it is OK for the discrepency. Only $4 and a level 1 inspection required to get it fixed. Whew, not bad. But what if it was stolen? The nice lady with the MVD told me I could contact law enforcement or go to the theft az web site and check it for myself. Once off the phone, I checked on the website, and the bike is not stolen. Whew!
The research
So off I went looking for a manual and parts look-up for the 1992 Suzuki G60 (GSX-R600). However I wasn't finding much. So I guess I should see what other bike frames are similar. I found that the 92- 1995 GSX-R 750 also shared the same chassis. Great for me!I found a couple of files for the parts and stuff. However, I'm still looking for a place to buy parts and nuts/bolts for the thing. If anyone knows, then please leave a comment below. Thanks!!
